National EuroVelo Coordination Centres

The network of National EuroVelo Coordination Centres (NECCs) is the link between the European and national levels of EuroVelo routes and is vitally important to the success of the European cycle route network.

NECCs are responsible for the implementation, coordination, quality assurance and communication of EuroVelo in the respective countries, and they contribute to the governance and the overall goals of EuroVelo and ECF.

There are currently 24 NECCs across Europe. Their contact details can be viewed either using the interactive map or the files below. The ultimate goal is to complete the map and establish a NECC in every country crossed by EuroVelo routes. National EuroVelo Coordination Centres represent a consortium of several national stakeholders – often including decision-making bodies on transport and tourism. In this case, a dedicated national governance is in place, supported by stable funding for the national and transnational coordination of EuroVelo routes.

In some countries where NECCs are not in place yet, National EuroVelo Coordinators (NEC) are the single stakeholder and main partner for EuroVelo. They support the central coordination of EuroVelo and are invited to upgrade as NECC in the future with the support of a national consortium. In some countries, no official partner at the national level has been identified yet. To ensure better coordination at a national level, the EuroVelo Management Team supports the establishment of National EuroVelo Coordination Centres in all European countries. Roles and responsibilities

National EuroVelo Coordination Centres:

• Are responsible for the day-to-day management of EuroVelo routes in their country, including
  • Route infrastructure development
  • Public transport connections improvement
  • Services
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Usage monitoring and evaluation
  • Organisation / advocacy

• Contribute to the development of EuroVelo as a whole and to achieving the overall goals of EuroVelo and ECF
• Take part in the governance of EuroVelo via the EuroVelo General Meeting and appointing EuroVelo Council members.
• Deliver an annual fee for the central Coordination of EuroVelo to ECF.

ECF/EuroVelo Management Team:

• Is responsible for the day-to-day transnational management of EuroVelo, including
  • Route infrastructure development
  • Public transport connections improvement
  • Services
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Usage monitoring and evaluation
  • Organisation / advocacy

• Leverages the EuroVelo trademark to collect additional resources for the development of the initiative
• Organises the annual EuroVelo General Meeting.

Becoming a National EuroVelo Coordination Centre

The EuroVelo Management Team welcomes the establishment of NECCs in all countries covered by EuroVelo routes and supports organisations throughout the process. Joining the NECC network has plenty of benefits for single countries, organisations and the whole network – such as boosting cycling tourism in the country, positioning the organisation as a key stakeholder for cycling and strengthening EuroVelo as a whole. Moreover, ECF provides exclusive services dedicated to the NECCs that aim to increase the exchange of best practices and information across the network.

New National EuroVelo Coordination Centre applications are evaluated yearly during the EuroVelo General Meeting, upon submission of the relevant application documents and proof of support at least two months before the EuroVelo General Meeting takes place. The EuroVelo Management Team advises potential NECCs during the process, to ensure that quality applications are submitted.
